The Building Services Department consists of approximately 115 custodial, maintenance, grounds-keeping, clerical and supervisory employees of the Wayne Board of Education.
Functioning as one organizational unit, these dedicated professionals are tasked with the total responsibilities for the cleaning, maintenance, repair and landscaping of 19 separate district facilities. These facilities include; two high schools, three middle schools, nine elementary schools, the acquisition of the Preakness School building (which houses Community Programs and the Alternative High School) in December 2005, an office/administration building (which houses our Special Services Department and Wayne Adult Community Center) adjacent to Schuyler Colfax, the Nellis Drive administration building (which houses central administration, the Board of Education and the Environmental Lab), and the Transportation facilities located on Dey Road.
We are responsible for the care, upkeep and maintenance of approximately 1.5 million gross square feet of building space and over 300 acres of land. Our abilities, talents and experiences make us qualified to address any variety of situations that may arise including custodial, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, carpentry, painting, glass repair, locks, roofing and the upkeep of athletic facilities and landscaping across the entire school district. Other specialty areas include building and facility security systems, fire alarm systems, communication systems and building management systems. In addition, we support a multitude of community based activities that use our educational facilities throughout the school year including the Boys/Girls Club, Wayne PAL, school PTO's, Booster Clubs, church groups, Senior Citizens groups, adult education, cultural arts programs, music, choir, dance and any other number of organizations throughout the Wayne and local communities.
