The Wayne Community Programs Coordinator is directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for the daily operation of the discretionary community programs within the district, including but not limited to: The Wayne Adult School, the Elementary School before and after school care Extended Day Program, Safety Town for children in Wayne entering Kindergarten, Behind the Wheel Driver's Education for student's age 16 or older who have completed the school-based Driver's Education course, Grants/Non-traditional Funding and Community Partnerships, and various district projects related to incorporating community involvement to meet Board of Education goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Establish a close relationship between the Department of Community Programs and the total school system, other agencies and organizations, adult and other non-traditional programs of education and/or planning in the community.
- Promote, throughout the school system and the Township, the various programs operated through the Department utilizing appropriate exhibits, news releases, descriptive literature, brochures, and other media techniques; develop acceptance of the programs operated through the Department as community responsibilities that are just as compelling as traditional education programs.
- Periodically assess community needs and desires, be cognizant of relevant research as it applies to expansion and growth of programs addressing community needs, and apply that research to stimulate growth and innovation in the programs operated through the Department.
- Serve as program liaison to the Board's Community Relations committees.
- Prepare for the Superintendent and the Board of Education, at intervals, reports on the educational needs of the community, comprehensive program reports, and assessments of the extent to which the Department's programs meet community needs.
- Analyze, evaluate, revise and maintain standards which have been previously established as desirable for the programs operated through the Department. Recommend and implement policy regarding all aspects of the programs operated through the Department.
- Work with committees and advisory groups whose functions impact on the programs operated through the Department and the needs of the community.
- Prepare and maintain local, county, and state financial and statistical reports and records as shall be required.
- Develop cooperative projects and give effective professional guidance and assistance to individuals and other community agencies concerned with the programs operated through the Department and the needs of the community.
- Represent the District, in matters related to the programs operated through the Department and the needs of the community, at professional meetings on local, county, and state or national levels in accordance with the professional leave policies.
- Develop and encourage in-service opportunities for professional growth of the faculty and staff of Department programs.
- Devise new alternatives to service the needs of youths and adults both within and outside of the school system based upon recognized needs.
