The Supervisor of Health Services is responsible for the supervision of all nursing staff and the district's Crisis Prevention and Intervention Specialist. The Supervisor of Health Services monitors and ensures that all students and staff are provided a healthy environment conducive to social, emotional and physical learning.
The responsibilities of the Supervisor of Health Services include, but are not limited to:
- recommends the employment of a nursing staff adequate to meet the school health needs
- interviews and recommends selection of all staff nurses
- assigns, transfers, and recommends promotion or separation from service of school nursing personnel
- prepares budgets and assembles basic data essential for budget construction, organizes and presents budget justification
- purchases and distributes health office supplies and equipment
- provides supervision to the nursing staff for the continuous improvement of their practice to maintain professional standards, techniques, and procedures
- mediates differences of opinions in problem situations involving nursing staff
- promotes participation of all staff nurses in I&RS/504 and CST referrals
- facilitate and implement the initial phase of Bedside Instruction in conjunction with Special Services
- review and update K-5 health curriculum
- district wide determining and submitting coordinator for School Nutrition Free/Reduced lunch program
- liaison between local Board of Health and State Health Department to facilitate and implement federal and state laws as they relate to health services.
- directs all screening programs within district and writes procedures (including Be Proud program)
- secure appropriate and board approved substitute R.N. coverage on a daily basis (i.e. field trips, building special coverage, etc.)
At the district level, the Supervisor of Health Services serves on the Crisis Team, H.E.A.R.T./Wellness and Food Advisory committees as a co-chair. In addition, is actively involved on the School Climate and Culture, Safety and Security, Professional Development Committees, and the Wayne Alliance.
