If we need to contact you...

Please remember to keep ALL telephone numbers up to date. It is very important that the school is able to reach you when your child is absent, becomes sick in school or in the event of an emergency! It is for your child's safety that the nurse is in contact with a parent when the child is not in school. Please remember to call the school when your child is out sick or absent.

When to Keep Your Child Home From School

Parents often wonder if they should keep their child home from school when he/she is not feeling well.  Although it is sometimes difficult to determine if your child is not well enough to make it through a full day of school, there are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Fever: If your child has had a temperature over 100 F in the last 24 hours, it is best to keep your child home. If he or she has a fever over 101 F you should contact their doctor.
  • Rash:  Any unknown rash should be checked by a doctor.
  • A Cold: When a cold is at its worst with coughing, sneezing, or a runny nose that is green or thick mucous.  These symptoms make it difficult to concentrate in school, and are contagious to the other students.
  • Diarrhea: This can be uncomfortable to sit in class for a reasonable period of time.
  • Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): It is very contagious.  The child must have a doctors’ note stating that they are on antibiotics for at least 24 hours BEFORE RETURNING TO SCHOOL.
  • Nausea and Vomiting:  If your child has vomited during the night, they need to be home the next day from school.

***If at any time you are not sure, it is helpful to call the school nurse with your questions.***

It is so important for the school to know of any changes in your child's emergency or health information.  Please notify the nurse by correspondence or telephone with regards to your child's emergency information, emergency contacts, parent/guardian's telephone contact information, health information or medical regime so that we can adequately provide assistance to your child.
