The kindergarteners have had a remarkable and fun filled first four months. They have made many new friends and really enjoy their time at school. We are amazed at how well the children have learned their routines and weekly schedules.
Our kindergarteners are getting very excited about learning how to read. We have completed the themes Look At Us, Colors All Around, and We’re A Family. We will be starting a new theme called Friends Together. The children are also writing in their journals daily and starting to form sentences using their high frequency words. They look forward to being introduced to a new Alpha Friend each week. Just ask them to sing the Alpha Friend’s songs to you! The children are also going to begin learning how to read and write word families. Before you know it they will be reading you their bedtime stories!
In math, we have been learning many new and interesting things! The children have begun learning how to measure and weigh objects. They have also enjoyed playing Everyday Math games like Dice Throw, Monster Squeeze, Teen Tangle, and Domino Concentration. The kindergarteners are also learning about symmetry by creating symmetrical art projects. During our meeting time the children practice counting by tens and fives. In February, we will also have a big 100th Day of School celebration!
In Science we have traveled through space and learned about all of our planets. What an incredible journey! We are also learning about hibernation and the new season of winter. In Social Studies the kindergarteners had an entertaining Pow Wow to celebrate Thanksgiving. We will continue to embrace our diverse country by teaching each other the different holidays we celebrate. The children will also understand the story of Martin Luther King Jr. and his accomplishments.
The year is flying by and we can’t believe how much the children have grown and matured since September. We are so proud of them and can’t wait to see what lies ahead in the next few months!
