Welcome to Our Kindergarten

Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching.  Our class celebration will be on Thursday February 11th.  Our students are off to reading this semester now that our letter and sound recognition is improving.  During February and March our students will be working on blending words together as well as learning new high frequency words and new chunks such as short /o/ and short /u/.

We will using position words, opposites, words for travel, describing words, as well as discussing cause and effect in stories, predicting and inferring and summarizing.

In Math we will be celebrating the 100th Day of school on February 10th.  We will take part in the school initiative by donating coins to Hugs for Haiti.  We will be reinforcing addition, subtraction, counting money and telling time to the hour.  The students will be learning tally marks as well as mastering writing their numerals to 50 and counting by 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.

In Science students will be learning about forces of push and pull, living and nonliving things.  We will continue to explore the weather and its characteristics especially noting how March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.

We will also be learning facts about Presidents Day and writing about what they would do if they were president.

Leprechauns will be visiting our classrooms to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and students will be discussing this great holiday.
