"What is Miss M Reading Now?"

The New Policeman – by Kate Thompson

This suspenseful time-travel thriller mixes older Irish mythologies (changelings, fairies and the land of Tir na nOg) with a few new twists to create an engaging story.  Time is leaking from our world in to the world of eternal life, causing havoc in both worlds.  Will the teen protagonist be able to fix the time leak?

Overview of Resources

30 computers are available for student use.  Available software includes MS Office Suite 2003 (“backwards compatible” with Office Suite 2007).  Two additional “media pod” computers are available for students to use the online catalog or access the Internet.  The computers accommodate flash drives and CDs only; no diskettes.

Over 30 databases are available in all subject areas (a database is a collection of information and images that is easily searchable by subject, keyword, author, title, etc.). The information contained in the databases is reliable and appropriate for use in school assignments.  Don’t waste time searching through 500,000 “iffy” Goggle returns when the databases can return quality information in a conveniently short list of 1-15 sources.  We also have access to training software that assists you in creating correctly formatted bibliographic entries and in avoiding plagiarism.  For more information on specific databases and software, click on the Digital Resources link at left.

More than 14,000 books, magazines and daily newspapers are easily accessible through the online catalog.  For more information, click on the Print Resources link at left.

The Online Catalog searches our entire print and audio-video collections and also returns quality websites.  The catalog is easy to use and offers both text-based and visual search options.  Search categories include title, author, keyword, subject and series.  Just ask for assistance if you are not sure how to use it.

Additional resources include 3 printers and a copy machine (cost:  10 cents a copy; machine makes change for $1 and $5 bills).  The library store stocks pens, pencils, highlighters, CDs, index cards and other supplies for a modest price.  These items are available for sale at the circulation desk.  Price list is as follows:

CD-R’s - $1.50

Highlighters (assorted colors) - $1.00

Index Cards - $.75 for a pack of 25 cards (white lined or neon colors, depending on supply)

Mechanical Pencils - $.50

Paper (Neon Poster Board) - $1.00 for 12 sheets

Pencils (Number 2) - $.25

“Gel” Pens - $.75
