Marching Band
The Wayne Hills Marching Band is a separate activity from the main Symphonic Band.
Participation in this activity is optional, but it is strongly recommended that you join.
The marching band goes to camp before the school year starts so that we
can learn new shows each year.
We perform at half-time during all Wayne Hills Varsity football games.
The marching band also goes to competitions to compete against other marching bands
and win awards and trophies.

Symphonic Band
The Wayne Hills Concert Band is the performance group for music students
who play woodwind, brass, and percussion.
No tryout is necessary. Music is chosen to appeal to a wide variety of interest and ability levels.
Activities include concerts, parades and ceremonies.
After school time is sometimes required.
It is strongly encouraged that all students enrolled in band also participate in the marching band.

Jazz Band
The Wayne Hills Jazz Band is an ensemble patterned off of the "Big Bands" of the 30's and 40's.
Students are given an opportunity to audition for this select ensemble in November and the group performs
throughout the year.
Although the "Big Bands" provide the greatest influence on ensembles of this kind, Latin, funk and even rock forms are explored. Basic skills in improvisation are taught and students are given the chance to experiment in this idiom.
The Jazz Band performs in school concerts and for various Community and Senior Citizen events each year.
The highlight of each year is the "All Wayne Jazz Festival" which features the Jazz bands from
each of the Wayne Secondary Schools and the internationally famous William Paterson Jazz Orchestra!

Chorus/Concert Choir
The WHHS Chorus meets daily, during the school day, and is open to all students with an interest in singing. No audition or previous experience is required. Throughout the year, students learn aspects of vocal technique, sight-singing and ear-training skills, and music theory. Repertoire includes a variety of musical genres such as Classical, Folk, Multicultural, Pop and Broadway. Through rehearsals and performances, students gain confidence and learn discipline, teamwork, and how music interacts with other disciplines. Most importantly, students have the opportunity for the aesthetic experience, something that only performing art classes can provide.
Since Chorus is a performing art, students are required to participate in two annual concerts; a Winter/Holiday Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May. There may be opportunities for additional performances throughout the year. Students with advanced piano skills are encouraged to enroll in Chorus and are given opportunities to accompany performances.
Chamber Choir
The WHHS Chamber Choir meets daily, during the school day, and acceptance is by audition only. Students who have completed at least one year of Chorus are eligible to audition. Students build upon the skills learned in Chorus and learn more advanced repertoire at a faster pace. Students perform at several school and community functions, requiring time out of the school day.
Chamber Choir students are required to participate in three concerts; a Winter/Holiday Concert in December, a Spring Concert in May, and Graduation in June.
Chorus and Chamber Choir students sing in the annual WHHS Community Concert, given for local senior citizens in conjunction with the WHHS Symphonic Band, in December (afternoon performance). Students also usually participate in an adjudicated Spring Choral Festival as a combined choir. Additionally, Chorus and Chamber Choir students are eligible to audition for the North Jersey Regional Chorus in January.
