Welcome to Our Middle School

Anthony Wayne Middle School was re-established in 2005 as the third middle school in the family of Wayne Public Schools. Our goal is to build upon our strong foundation to maintain a truly exemplary middle school that is responsive to the needs of its students.  We are committed to providing a safe school atmosphere that addresses the unique needs and vast developmental changes of the middle level student.  We are dedicated to providing the opportunity for every student to reach maximum cognitive, social and emotional development; to provide the skills and opportunities necessary to develop well-rounded, creative and responsible individuals.

Throughout their years at Anthony Wayne, our students are members of small learning communities/teams in which students and teachers interact, bond, and together establish a positive, supportive climate.  Within these teams, students work closely with teachers and peers as they participate in integrated, meaningful, and challenging educational lessons and instruction differentiated to meet individual learning styles/needs.

A comprehensive language arts, math, social studies and science curricula, enhanced by internet access technology and interactive tablets in every classroom, challenges students to think and make associations through themes and interdisciplinary connections.  With effective communication skills as vital within our world, students are supported to develop their spoken and written language arts skills across the curriculum.

Elective cycle courses are available in the Visual Arts, Family and Consumer Science, Computer Technology, and Woods/Inventions. For students pursuing an interest in music, both vocal and instrumental music offerings are available.  Health and Physical Education courses provide practical knowledge leading to a lifetime of fitness.  Extra-curricular activities enable students to pursue their special interests.  Student clubs include the School Newspaper – The Golden Gazette, School Yearbook, Student Council, Musical Theatre Production, Talent Show, Academic Competition, Photography Club, Computer Club, Jazz Band, Vocal Music Masters, Key Communicators Service Club, Environmental Club, Robotics, Aerobics, and Reading/Writing Club.

As responsible, caring members of our school, eighth grade peer leaders and 6th, 7th and 8th grade student council representatives serve as role models in support of community volunteerism and actively plan special activities and events for our school.

Staff members, with understanding and knowledge of the changing needs of the young adolescent, forge a partnership with families and the community.  This connection is the driving force behind every middle level student meeting with success in the process of self realization.  Our students are provided the support systems and guidance necessary to enable them to achieve academic excellence and establish morals and values, as they develop an individualized identity, and respect for themselves and others. With courage and self-confidence, our students will move forward to make lasting impressions in their community and world; viewed as positive role models and leaders who are capable, connected and contributing members of society.

Our students will graduate as capable and confident in their abilities to transition successfully to high school. They will be equipped and inspired to move forward in their educational and personal growth and development with compassion and respect for themselves, their fellow students and members of the larger community.
