Eighth grade is both an exciting and important year as we prepare to make the transition to high school. Your team teachers will guide you through your experiences to ensure success in academics as well as personal growth.
Mrs. Battagliese – Language Arts
Mr. Grant – Social Studies
Mrs. Healy – Language Arts
Ms. Paruta – Science
Ms. Surpless - Mathematics
The Language Arts program in 8th grade explores many different themes. These themes will be expanded through texts such as novels, short stories, poems, plays, songs, etc. An important focus in this subject will be to strengthen writing quality through a variety of projects.
Eighth grade Social Studies is a fun and fascinating subject. In the year that will transpire, students will learn about ancient civilizations that helped shape who we are today. The use of a variety of sources and technology in completing our curriculum will be a fun and creative way to accomplish our goals. There will be interactive projects and research based assignments.
Science will focus on Earth systems in astronomy, geology, meteorology and oceanography. We will be building problem solving abilities that will enhance overall study skills. Working in a variety of settings is integral in the science classroom and the laboratory is one of the best places to gain understanding of the concepts and real world issues we will be studying.
The Math program will focus on good study skills, perseverance and organization skills in pre-algebra and algebra classes. Students will experience learning independently and cooperatively while developing a mature approach to the high school math program.
Throughout the year we will be preparing for NJASK8 (formerly GEPA) testing in May. As always, we plan to bring back great scores in Language Arts, Mathematics and Science!
Best of luck to our incoming eighth grade class!
