Health & Physical Education Department
2009-2010
“No knowledge is more crucial than knowledge about health.
Without it, no other life goal can be successfully achieved.”
- Ernest Boyer
Our department has embarked on an exciting journey as we are now implementing, along with our sister schools, the curriculum of studies at the middle school level. We have successfully implemented the 6th grade and 7th grade curriculum and are ready to begin our new 8th grade curriculum. This year, we anticipate the natural transition for all three grade levels from Physical Education class and to Health.
Anthony Wayne strives to offer opportunities for each student to achieve his/her own optimal health. This is accomplished through various activities during daily instruction and understanding of lifelong wellness. Collaboration between school, community, and family are also essential to our program. We appreciate all who work together with us to recognize and foster the values of wellness that benefit our children in every aspect of their life.
At the beginning of every school year, all students are given Physical Education Contracts that explain rules, regulations, grading policy, dress code, and other information that is vital for all students and parents. These contracts are signed by the student & parent alike and returned to the Physical Education Department before physical activity begins. The topics discussed in the health curriculum are sent home when your child is scheduled for health class. Parents are asked to sign and return the curriculum outline after their review to the student’s health teacher.
Physical Education Uniforms are sold in Health and PE classes during the first several days of school. Blue shorts and Gold T-shirts. The logo of Wayne PE is silk screened on both the shorts and shirts. T-shirts are $4.00 and shorts are $7.00. Cash or checks are accepted. Checks should be made out to Anthony Wayne Middle School. Each student’s last name will be printed on the uniform. (Students can buy multiple sets and purchase another uniform throughout the course of the year if needed).
If interested, students can purchase sweat shirts and/or sweat pants from the PTO to wear over their PE uniform. For more information, please contact the PTO
Gym lockers are assigned to each student, as well as locks. Unlike the uniform, locks belong to the school and will be returned to the Health and Physical Education Department at the end of the school year. Failure to return the lock will result in a $5.00 fine.
As far as activities and goals of the Health and Physical Education Department? In addition to our existing curriculum, we anticipate having our students work with the American Heart Association once again to help raise money to help fight against heart disease. We are looking forward to working with students and staff members to help promote Healthy Heart Days, Wellness Week, Staff Fitness Days, and of course our annual Field Days.
We encourage you to visit our Health & Physical Education webpage at www.yourclasspage.com for more information regarding departmental information for each marking period.
