Each grade level chorus class meets every day at George Washington.  All choruses rehearse a variety of music in preparation for several performances throughout the school year.

During the fall season, choruses prepare for our annual Holiday Concert as well as an in-school assembly, which is held in December.

During the spring semester, the students focus on preparation for their annual Music In The Parks festival/competition at Lakewood High School followed by a trip to Six Flags Great Adventure which takes place in May.  Judges who are professionals in the music field evaluate each choir's performance, and award trophies to the best groups.

In addition to the festival, all choruses prepare for their Spring Concert held in June.

Besides the choral program during regular school day there are extracurricular opportunities for students who love to sing. The 6th graders have the opportunity to participate in our annual Backstage Broadway Cafe. This is a totally different performance venue than what we do throughout the rest of the year - the pieces are strictly from current or past Broadway/off-Broadway shows and students that are chosen to perform will be doing so in a Cabaret-style setting.  Parents are seated at tables throughout the room where they are treated to individual performances by their children.   Students perform in character, (i.e., with costumes. Some roles are even choreographed!) and use microphones.  This gives them the opportunity to show off their individual talents beyond the scope of the chorus classes.

The 7th and 8th graders have the opportunity to audition for Jazz Choir which meets after school in the fall as well as spring semesters.  This is a great opportunity for students to start to learn about jazz vocal music and develop that style in their vocal training.  They learn about the history of  several different jazz vocalists and listen to their styles and, of course, try to incorporate these characteristics into their own performances. The Jazz Choir goes out and sings for residents at local nursing homes during the holidays.  During the spring semester, they combine with the Jazz Band for an evening of music at Jazz In The Courtyard which takes place in May.
