Welcome to the 8th grade Lincoln Team

This eighth grade year holds many exciting and significant activities for your student.  Our mission for this year is to help our students grow, both academically and socially as well as prepare them to begin high school. This will be accomplished through utilization of multi-sensory activities, setting high expectations, and encouraging the development of positive relationships among peers, parents and teachers.

As team teachers we will meet on a regular basis to develop and refine our curriculum, teaching practices and to review the progress of our students.  We support each other’s efforts and encourage your participation as well.  Please know that we are available to discuss any concerns that you might have regarding your child.  By working together we can more effectively influence your child’s approach to learning.  The following are a number of items for you to review as Lincoln Team Members:

The following are our Goals for the 2008-2009 School Year: 

  1. Students will understand the high standard of work expected from them and continue to produce a quality of work consistent with this standard;
  2. Students will understand that they are personally responsible for their actions and resulting consequences;
  3. Students and teachers will foster an environment of respect and appreciation amount their team members and the school community in general;
  4. Students will focus on keeping themselves organized.  It is important that organization be recognized as an extremely important tool now and in the future;
  5. All should understand these goals directly focus on improving student preparation for high school and real life.

 8 Lincoln Code of Conduct:

  1. I will treat everyone and all property with respect and courtesy.
  2. I will act responsibly and do my part to stop bullying
  3. I will encourage a good choice of language and a proper tone of voice in the classroom and hallways of our school
  4. I will be on time, prepared and attentive in class.  

The following are individual subject objectives – 

  • Eighth Grade Social Studies classes focus on World History.  We will learn about how governments wer4e formed, how religions and economic systems developed and how science and technology evolved.
  • Eighth grade mathematics classes have a pre-algebra focus, but explore all content areas.  The students learn how the standards of Geometry and Measurement, Number Sense and Operations, Patterns and Algebra, and Probability and Data Analysis all connect and build upon one another.   
  • The Algebra I students explore the Algebra curriculum through real-world applications.    
  • Grade eight-science curriculum is Earth Science, the study of the planet Earth and its place within the Universe.  We study all branches of Earth Science:  Geology, Astronomy, Oceanography and Meteorology.
