- Eighth grade students and their parents have reviewed course offerings for the high school and have made selections for the counselors to schedule.
- Seventh and sixth grade students have selected elective subjects such as chorus, band, or cycles.
- Eligible seventh grade students have been notified and have made selections for studying a foreign language in the eighth grade.
- Seventh grade students will take an Algebra Readiness exam that will determine their math assignment for grade eight.
- Academic conferences for the third marking period interims will be ongoing for all grade levels.
Additionally, the GWMS counselors have met with the fifth grade students from Packanack, Ryerson, and Randall Carter Elementary Schools to facilitate transitioning to the middle level next year. School Counseling Philosophy
The Wayne Township Public School District believes that school counseling is a program, rather than a service, which is an important part of the overall educational process. It is comprehensive and sequentially founded on the belief that individuals experience general stages of personal growth and concomitant tasks as they mature from childhood to adulthood; therefore, the Wayne Township school counseling program:
- seeks to attain educational excellence through individual excellence
- includes parent/guardian/teacher/community
- includes the needs of all students at all levels
- is consistent with the expected developmental stages of learning
- provides developmental, as well as preventive and remedial programs and services
- involves the entire school community
- includes counselors continued professional development and participation in professional activities necessary to maintain quality programs
