To all new parent(s) to the district or our school, we have put together some information to make the transition into our school slightly easier.
When your child first comes to our department he/she will receive a contract that will list rules, grading policy, procedures, dress code and the code of conduct in the gymnasium. Other useful suggestions are listed in the contract. This contract is to be signed by a parent/guardian and the child and returned to school the next day. The students participate in three marking periods of Physical Education and one marking period of Health. During the first days of Health your child will receive a family life letter, course outline, and his/her workbook which is to be reviewed by a parent/guardian signed inside the workbook and returned to school the next school day.
PE Uniforms & Lockers
Students will have the opportunity to purchase shirts and shorts in the beginning of the school year for $5.00 a piece. It is recommended that students try on clothing prior to purchase. Once the uniform is purchased the student's last name will be printed on the back of the shirt and on the shorts. Students may buy more than one set and can purchase new shirts or shorts throughout the year by just notifying a PE teacher. They must purchase a V56 master lock for $5.00. The student's name will be engraved on the back of the lock and they will receive a combination. For the uniform and lock cash or check will be excepted. Please make any checks out to George Washington Middle School.
Students may also bring in sweatshirts and sweatpants from home to wear
over the uniform for the fall and spring. They do participate in outdoor activities and sometimes it can get quite chilly.
PE Curriculum
Students will participate in a variety of individual and team sports as well as a fitness unit and project adventure. All activities focus on overall wellness. Our goal is for students to become fit, healthy, and active adults. Students will reach this goal by gaining understanding of the factors that improve or maintain physical, social, emotional, and mental Health.
A good place you can visit with your family to stay informed on ways to keep fit and activities you can do together is the President's Challenge web site. There is also a family challenge you can participate in and log your activity time. The students will be fitness tested throughout the school year in the fitness unit, the fall and spring.
They will have several opportunities to improve their scores, if you would like to see the qualifying standards please go to President's Challenge.
At the end of the year students will receive a Fitness Prescription which gives them their scores and where they placed nationally. It also details activities students can do to improve their scores in the different areas. Students will also engage in a Field Day that allows students to be active an entire school day.
