Students are screened annually for vision and hearing defects, scoliosis (7th grade only), pediculosis, and blood pressure by the nurse. Parents will be notified if there is any problem that might require further medical attention. It is recommended that students be examined at least once a year by the family doctor and dentist. Any eighth grader who is unable to see the family doctor will be examined by the school physician.
Students who require medication during school hours must bring the original labeled container to the nurse. The required medication forms which require physician and parental signatures can be obtained from the Health Office or by clicking the link provided below. No medication will be dispensed without proper documentation. Students can not carry or administer any medication without proper documentation on file in the Health Office.
If you become ill in school, you must report to the nurse who will decide what should be done. Students may not leave the building because of illness without authorization from the health office. You must acquire a teacher pass before going to the health office.
When a student becomes ill at home with a communicable disease or physical injury, the school nurse must be notified immediately. Any student returning to school with a cast, crutches or injury must report to the nurse before homeroom or class. Parents/Guardians should advise the nurse at the beginning of the school year of any physical disabilities or health problems which may affect school activities.
If a student is ill and will be absent from school for at least two weeks, arrangements can be made through the school nurse to receive home instruction. A doctor's note, with a diagnosis, requesting home instruction and indicating the anticipated length of absence is required.
