Speech Language Therapy

Speech-Language Therapy services at Schuyler-Colfax Middle School are designed to improve the communication abilities of students.  The primary goal of the program is to facilitate a student's communication competence, which is critical for positive educational outcomes.  Areas addressed through Speech-Language Therapy include articulation, voice, fluency, and language disorders.  Services are provided either through a pull-out or in-class support model, depending upon the specific needs of each student.

Responsibilities of the Speech-Language Specialist include assessment, evaluation, eligibility determination, caseload management, and intervention.  "Ultimately, the school-based Speech-Language Specialist's purpose in addressing communication and related disorders is to effect functional and measurable change(s) in a student's communication status so that the student may participate as fully as possible in all aspects of life-educational, social, and vocational."  (American Speech and Hearing Association, 1999, page 6).
