(Wayne, New Jersey) - At the regular meeting of April 11th, the Wayne Board of Education approved a project to replace both of the district’s synthetic turf fields. Currently, Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High School teams play on eleven-year-old synthetic turf surfaces that are approaching the end of their expected useful life. The project will also include a thorough inspection of the existing drainage along with a host of other upgrades such as markings for all sports and school logos. The estimated cost of the project is $1,025,000 and it will be financed through a partnership with the Passaic County Improvement Authority.

At the March 14th budget meeting of the Wayne Board of Education, trustees adopted a preliminary $172.7 million budget that included a two percent tax levy increase and over $1 million of funding to renovate parts of the Preakness School. This school, which currently houses the Preakness Annex of the Wayne Library, a training center for school employees, and a specialized high school program, is not currently operated as a school. The renovation work will lead to twelve new classrooms and a capacity for over 200 students.
