Welcome to Wayne Hills High School
Dear Patriot Families,
I had the honor of attending the National Honor Society Induction ceremony on October 24th. Mr. Poalillo, the advisor, has turned the ceremony over to his executives who gave some wonderful speeches. Our President, Justin Reicher gave a wonderful introduction and outline of the ceremony. In case you may not know, NHS has 4 pillars on which a student must meet qualifying criteria in order to be a member. Each executive of NHS gave their opinions on what each meant to them.
The Credit Officer, Ilona Margolin spoke about the first Pillar, Leadership. She quoted the great Michael Jordan who said that "Some want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen." Leaders make it happen.
The second Pillar is Scholarship and Laura Lassen, the Secretary, spoke about being engaged in life, learning from your mistakes, and not worrying about a number which was in reference to grades.
The third Pillar is Service and Robert Stepien, the Treasurer, spoke about how helping others enriches others lives but also your own and that a simple act, taking merely a minute or an hour, can make all the difference for someone including yourself.
The fourth Pillar is Character and Emma Lehman, the Tutoring Officer, spoke about how the expression a smile is worth a thousand words is a good way to show your character and how such a simple act can have a very powerful impact. She shared that overcoming a personal injury could have been a setback, but instead she used drive and determination to take a setback and use it as a challenge.
I am very proud to have not only these executive NHS members in my school, but all the members as well. Too often we hear that students 'today' lack all of the characteristics that previous generations possessed. That is not what I see on a daily basis. These students, like Michael Jordan, do make it happen, do help others, do offer up warm greetings and kindness.
I congratulate all of the new members and look forward to the amazing things that they will do in the future.
