The Wayne Township Public School District has been working to create a learning environment where technology is not an obstacle in instruction, but rather a catalyst for learning.
To create a Future Ready Environment, it is necessary to have a robust network infrastructure that is capable of meeting the needs for instructional purposes and a network that is able to grow as the demand for instructional technology increases.
The shift to a Future Ready Environment has created more opportunities for students to utilize digital tools which has led to an increase in cloud-based services and subscriptions. These services and subscriptions aim at increasing student engagement and achievement. The tools allow students and staff 24 hour access to these instructional resources. With students and staff having anytime, anywhere access, learning is no longer bound to the classroom walls but creates an environment where students are Ready to Innovate. -
Equip all students to use technology actively in their learning path by constructing knowledge, collaborating, communicating and thinking globally in a 21st century environment according to age appropriate developmental expectations.
- Students will recognize the responsibilities and opportunities of growing up in a connected global society; the importance of digital citizenship and the impact of their digital footprint.
- Students will utilize technology in real-world applications to demonstrate problem-solving skills.
- Students will utilize technology to connect with other learners to increase their perspective, to explore locally and think globally.
- Students will have an increased opportunity to demonstrate multimodal learning through a variety of digital platforms, tools, and formats aligned to the learning outcome.

Why Not BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)?
Why not BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)? If we are to change the way we teach and learn in the classrooms, we need to have a uniform platform. With a BYOD implementation, it would be difficult for us to mandate our students to bring in their devices.
- This means we cannot eliminate any of the labs or student Chromebooks from the district.
- We would also encounter difficulties in enforcing what the students are allowed to do on their devices and what applications they can have on them.
- From a support standpoint, it would be a problematic for our technical staff to address network, hardware or software issues on the various operating systems and devices.
-
Content Filter for Internet Browsing

Parent Information
How is this different from a cart-based model? In a 1:1 environment, the Chromebook is issued similar to a textbook, where students are encouraged to take it home and come prepared the next day ready for learning. The goal is to make learning more individualized and to extend academics beyond the classroom walls. In a cart-based model, Chromebooks are stored in charging carts and students are assigned a Chromebook to be used for a particular class. At the end of the class, the students return the Chromebook back to the cart for the next class.
How can I help support the school with this 1-to-1 program? Parental support is essential to the success of any educational program.
