Safety Town is a program in which youngsters eligible for kindergarten in September are familiarized with various concepts of safety.
The program allows each youngster to become sensitive to the need for safety in the home, the school, and the community. Although not mandatory, it serves as an excellent experience for those who will be entering kindergarten in September.
Two Wayne teachers, assisted by guest speakers from the community, instruct the students for one week. Every day, the students are encouraged to practice different safety routines and participate in fun activities related to safety. During the week, the children will hear from a policeman, a fireman, a lifeguard, an EMS volunteer, AAA and NJ Transit representatives, and a school bus driver.
