About the WV Student Dance Team
The Wayne Valley Dance Team is a sport that performs at halftime during boys basketball games and competes against other high schools. There is a tryout to make the team that requires certain dance skills such as turns in second, triple turns, leaps, and calypso's. The main styles of dance that are performed are jazz and pom.
The team practices 2 to 3 times a week for about 2 hours after school. Practices usually start in the fall and continue through the winter. Competitions occur on the weekends in January and February. These competitions are at local high schools and to end the season, the dance team competes at Nationals.
Over the past 2 years, the dance team was top 10 in the nation in the pom category and double state champions in the pom and jazz categories for 2020!
If you are interested in trying out for the Wayne Valley Dance Team, please make sure you fill out the interest form. While the tryout date is not set yet, it is highly recommended that you practice the skills listed below:

Here is information on what tryouts usually look like:
Tryouts consist of two dances that focus on pom and jazz technique. Each routine will be taught and rehearsed along with reviewing individual skills. There will be judges to look at each routine and individual skills. Coach Jess is looking for potential, so each skill and routine are not expected to be perfect.
Try your best and have fun!
