New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants Scholarship Award
The Wayne Hills Business Department is pleased to announce that Lucia Pollaro, a senior at Wayne Hills High School, was one of the 16 winners selected statewide for a $1,500 scholarship awarded by the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. The NJCPA Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to college-bound New Jersey high school seniors intending to major in accounting or obtain a concentration in accounting. In addition to the scholarship, Lucia selects a NJCPA member to mentor her throughout her college experience.
Lucia was recognized at the annual awards ceremony on April 26, 2022. Lucia is the 10th student at Wayne Hills to receive the scholarship. This is all possible because each year the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants sends volunteers to NJ high schools to speak about careers in accounting. Wayne Hills High School has been honored to have Anthony Schlachter present to the students for the past ten years. Anthony himself is a former Wayne Valley High School graduate and scholarship winner. He is a Partner in Deloitte’s M&A Transaction Services practice.
WHHS Teacher, Mr. Hill, has had the pleasure of instructing Lucia in College Accounting I and College Accounting II. Mr. Hills says, " Lucia is organized and motivated to do her best on a daily basis. It has been a pleasure having Lucia in class and seeing her growth as a student and person. She is extremely active in and out of the classroom. We could not be happier to hear that accounting is her chosen course of study and career choice. She is the type of person who is well liked and respected by staff and students alike." Consequently, the business teachers at WHHS have chosen Lucia to be their student representative on the Wayne Business Education Advisory Board so that she can add her perspective to their discussions. Wayne Township Public Schools wish Lucia all the best in her pursuit of her CPA in college at Fairleigh Dickinson University.
