Letter from the Superintendent Regarding District Curriculum - June 5, 2020
June 5, 2020
Dear Students, Parents, Staff Members, and Residents:
Tragic situations offer an opportunity for change and progress. We look at the ongoing exchange of thoughts about our schools in the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd as an opportunity for progress. Recently, many of you have been asked to support a CHANGE.ORG petition where a statistic about our school district is shared regarding a lack of inclusion of African American History in the curriculum. It is important for all members of our community to understand that while we recognize there is always room for improvement, we have made great strides with our curriculum in the past five years. Our curriculum, and many other aspects of our school district, are far more inclusive and representative of our diverse population when compared to the past, and we strongly dispute this mischaracterization of our curriculum.
