Many years back, post Hurricane Sandy, I started an event in which educators within the community could gather in a united manner and give back to community families in need. Thirteen years later, I introduced this event to Wayne Township Public Schools. With the support of the WEA and WTAA the event publicity spread. Partnering with the Village Inn as a hosting location we also supported a local business.

To say that this event was a success would be a modest understatement. An overwhelming number of people in attendance were grateful to have the ability to catch up with friends from across the district, demonstrate their gratitude, and display their generosity. Team members in attendance donated gift cards from local supermarkets to help families keep food on the table between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We were able to collect approximately $3500 in gift cards that’ll go directly to families and the local food bank. Over 150 friends from across the district joined us.

Substitute Educators Day
On Thursday, November 13, the Wayne Board of Education recognized students for their academic achievements with the National Merit and Advanced Placement Scholarship Program. The National Merit® Scholarship Program is an annual academic competition to recognize student achievement and to award undergraduate scholarships. Established in 1955, the program is open to all U.S. high school students who meet participation requirements. Mr. David Cittadino opened up the program by congratulating the students, their families, and staff members and then provided an overview of the Scholarship program. Did you ever wonder who was in charge when the Principal leaves the building...?
This morning it was Daisy! 🐕‍🦺
She was a great temporary Principal of Packanack Elementary and she eventually let Principal Doolittle have his office back! 😉

Lafayette Elementary School hosted a Ruby Bridges Walk. Led and planned by dedicated Safety Patrol, who encouraged students and families to join in, students gathered at the school playground at 8:15 am. From there, many of the students, parents, staff members, therapy dogs, and even our Superintendent, walked together to school in solidarity and celebration.

Ruby Bridges is a civil rights activist who, at just six years old in 1960, became the first African American student at the center of the movement to desegregate schools in New Orleans and the South. Her tremendous bravery helped pave the way for desegregation and continues to inspire students and educators across the country.

To honor Ruby’s courage, the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day was created—and this year, Lafaye...
