Wayne High School 16th Student Culinary Competition 4/18/24 Results

There were over 300 people in attendance to taste the students’ dishes from their themed stations. The entrance admission money raised $1,976.00 for the Culinary and Consumer Science Scholarships at both Wayne Hills and Wayne Valley High Schools.

Congratulations to MACKENZIE CASTALDO (3rd grade at Packanack Elementary school) for winning the First Annual Future Chef Competition on March 27, 2024!

Mack's Chili Cheese Mac scored 94 total points with the judges for Originality, Easy Preparation, Healthy Attributes, Kid Friends, Taste, Plate Presentation & Chef Presentation. Mackenzie's recipe will represent Wayne Public Schools to be considered in the National Future Chefs Competition and be featured on the Elementary School Lunch Menu in May 2024.

Recipe for Mack’s Cheesy Chili Mac!

Ingredients

·  1lb. Ground turkey

·  1/2 lb elbow macaroni

·  1 12 oz bag of shredded cheddar and Colby Jack cheese

·  1 12 oz can diced tomatoes

·  3 cups chicken stock

·  1 tsp chili powder

·  1 tsp adobe seasoning

·  1/2 tsp cumin

·  1/8 tsp coriander

·  Scallions, sour cream, avocado for toopings

Preparation method

·  Step 1 Heat a medium pot and 1 tsp oil Add ground turkey to brown

·  Step 2 Add seasoning and chop meat as it is browning

·  Step 3 Once meat is just about cooked add diced tomatoes let cook and simmer

·  Step 4 Add chicken stock and bring to a boil

·  Step 5 Add pasta when it is boiling

·  Step 6 Let cook 10 minutes uncovered until pasta is cooked

·  Step 7 Turn off heat and add cheese and mix until melted

·  Step 8 Serve in a bowl Optional toppings Scallion Sour cream Avocado
