@TAPinto Wayne recaps the “aging” conditions at four school buildings during a recent media tour and how the March 12 bond referendum proposes updates that would provide #StrengthForTheFuture.
The article states, “there is no doubt in anyone's mind that most of the Wayne schools are in need of modernization,” and that the bond referendum would “address these issues that seem to make teaching and learning in Wayne more difficult, or more inconvenient, than it could be.”

In the second episode of our Referendum Series, we will provide an overview of the tax impact of the referendum for the Wayne Township Public School District. Bill Moffitt, School Business Administrator, and Dr. Mark Toback, Superintendent, discuss the following points about the referendum in their conversation:
* The strategic timing of the proposal
* The cost to the average homeowner
* The difference between assessed and market value
* The impact of a referendum failure on the tax rate
Assessed value is different, and usually much less, than market value. Find the assessed value on your tax bill or via the link at https://www.wayneschoolscom/future/funding. Use the chart to estimate how much you would contribute annually to the proposed improvements

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
March 12, 2024 Election Day - Schools Closed
Due to the upcoming Bond Referendum Election on Tuesday, March 12th being a scheduled school day, and with the safety and security of our students and staff in mind, Wayne Township Public Schools will use one of our four emergency days for the 2023-2024 school year to close schools on March 12th.

Roofing is a glamour-less “must do” maintenance project that makes up about $18 million of the referendum package. Partial roof replacements are proposed at 11 schools. This kind of project can be daunting for the owner of a standard-sized home, and for WTPS it adds up to 297,685 square feet of roofing. That’s a little more than five football fields!
Voter approval would let WTPS capture state aid for this must-do maintenance. That means less money comes from local taxes.
Learn more about these projects and the impact of state aid at wayneschools.com/future.

Want to learn how the proposed improvements would benefit students? Join the Feb. 15 Community Forum to hear from and ask questions of the administration and the experts who helped guide the referendum. Attend in person or watch the live stream. Details at wayneschools.com/future.

Did you know? Bond funding finances big projects at a reduced cost to local taxpayers. With voter approval, WTPS would secure $39 million in state aid.
Taxpayers in Wayne and across NJ already pay into that pot of money. It’s only available to districts with approved bond referenda.

Proposed improvements include a mix of must-do repairs and upgrades across all 15 schools to better serve students and the community. Voter approval on March 12 would capture $39 million in state aid. See the Improvements page for more: https://www.wayneschools.com/future. #StrengthForTheFuture

Did you know? Upgrading key components of the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning systems would save money by boosting energy efficiency. Other building repairs like window replacements would also boost energy efficiency.
Plus, state aid available only through voter-approved bonds offers a fiscally responsible route to make large-scale upgrades rather than piecemeal repairs. More about the funding strategy at https://www.wayneschools.com/future. #StrengthForTheFuture
